Sung Mass in the Extraordinary Form
for the Saturday in the 3rd Week of Lent
Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Harry Neely, O.S.A.

Come and join us on Saturday, March 17, at 9:30,  at St. John's in North Park and experience the ancient Gregorian chants of the Traditional Latin Mass.  The weekdays of Lent contain in fact  musical gems that are rarely heard outside of monasteries.  This Saturday the readings will focus on two women, the chaste Susanna of the Book of Daniel and the adulterous woman of the Gospel of John, who are both delivered by God from their accusers.

February 22: Ash Wednesday

Wednesday, February 22, 19:00 (7:00 P.M.)
Sung Mass in the Extraordinary Form
for Ash Wednesday
Celebrant: Rev. Carl N. Gismondi, Jr., F.S.S.P.

The Brothers of the Little Oratory in San Diego have been invited by Fr. Gismondi, pastor of St. Anne's, to sing the Gregorian chant propers and ordinary for the ceremonies of Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. On Ash Wednesday, the faithful are signed with the blessed ashes and are sternly reminded: Remember O man, that dust thou art, and to dust thou shalt return. (Gen. 3:19). Let us then cast aside what is transitory and aim at the eternal: Truth, Beauty, and Goodness.

Candlemass

10:30  Blessing of Candles, Procession,
followed by
Sung Mass in the Extraordinary Form
Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Burt Boudoin

Please come and join us on Thursday morning, February 2, at 10:30, at St. John of the Cross in Lemon Grove to celebrate Candlemass (also known as Purification of the Blessed Virgin or Feast of the Presentation of Christ to the Temple). In obedience to Mosaic Law, which called for women to be purified after having given birth and to redeem their fist born, the Mother of God went to the temple of Jerusalem. There she was greeted by holy Simeon and Anna the prophetess. The child Jesus was hailed as the light to the revelation of the Gentiles. Thus we shall light candles to represent Christ, Light from Light,  that dispels the darkness in our hearts.
