Sunday, October 12: Vespers of the 18th Sunday after Pentecost

Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini,
Christ Healing the Paralytic (1730-31)

Sunday, October 12, 15:00 (3:00 PM)
Vespers of the 18th Sunday after Pentecost
with Benediction
Hebdomadary: Rev. Fr. Eugene Sta.Ana

4080 Hawk St, San Diego, CA 92103

Come and join us at our monthly appointment with Sunday Vespers at St. Vincent de Paul. This time we hear about the healing of the paralytic of Capernaum. The healing of physical infirmities is always subordinate to  the healing of those affecting the spirit. Christ, being God, forgives first the sins of the paralytic and then He frees him from his disease.

Eucharistic Procession in Little Italy

Some photos of the Eucharistic procession of yesterday, Sunday, October 5, which took place in Little Italy for the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. The Brothers were honored to hold the canopy over the Blessed Sacrament, which was carried in procession by the pastor, Rev. Fr. Joseph Tabigue, C.R.S.P., and carry candlesticks.

September 29: New Rite Mass for the Feast of Sts. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels

Francesco Bottini (1446-1497): The Three Archangels and Tobias

NEW RITE LATIN MASS

for the Feast of  Sts. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, Archangels
Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Peter Navarra

8086 Broadway, Lemon Grove, CA 91945

There are different opinions among canonists, liturgists, and theologians about the reform of the liturgy promulgated by Pope Paul VI in 1969. We will not join this often heated debate. However, it is possible to celebrate the Mass to which the majority of Catholics are accustomed in a manner that is informed with the tradition of the Church by using Latin, Gregorian chant, and a common direction of worship between priest and faithful. We are grateful to Fr. Navarra, pastor of  St. John of the Cross in Lemon Grove, for accepting to celebrate the Mass in this way for the feast of Sts. Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael.

This Sunday we hear in the Gospel how our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ brings back to life the only son of a widow mother, who, after many tears, turns joyful. St . Augustine compare this episode with the life of each Christian, who first is spiritually dead and then, through Baptism, becomes alive in Christ, for the joy of mother Church. Hear all this in Gregorian chant on Sunday 21 at St. Vincent de Paul Church.
