Saturday Nov. 12: 1st Vespers of St. Didacus, Patron of our Diocese

St. Didacus of Alcalá and the Miracle of the Roses
Niccol
ò Betti (1550-1617)

Saturday, November 12th, 15:00 ( 3:00 P.M.)
1st Vespers of St. Didacus of Alcalá
Patron Saint of the Diocese of San Diego
Hebdomadary: Rev. Fr. Aaron Liebert, F.S.S.P.

The first Catholic mission in the present-day state of California was dedicated in 1769 to St. Didacus of Alcalá, a Spanish Franciscan lay brother who evangelized in the Canary Islands. Over 250 years later, the settlement around this mission has grown to a city of 1.3 million and a larger region of over 3 million. Join us for the public singing of the 1st Vespers of the Patron Saint of America's Finest City as we ask him to continue interceding for the inhabitants of San Diego, CA, and that his intercession may direct this city to return to her Catholic roots.

As patron of the Diocese of San Diego, the Feast of St. Didacus is observed as a Solemnity (Double Feast of the 1st Class) for those in the diocese. This overtakes the observance of the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost, so his 1st Vespers will be taken from the Festal Office of a Confessor, rather than from the Ferial Office of Saturday.
