File:Cesare Dandini Santa Inés.jpg

Thursday, January 21, 7:00 P.M.

Mass in the Extraordinary Form
for the Feast of St. Agnes, Virgin and Martyr

Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Harry Neely, O.S.A.
St. Augustine Monastery Chapel
3266 Nutmeg St., San Diego, CA 92104

St. Agnes was a thirteen-year-old Roman girl who was martyred in 304 A.D. under the emperor Diocletian. The name Agnes is Greek but in Latin it resembles agnus (lamb), hence the saint is always depicted with a lamb, beside the palm branch, which is the symbol of martyrdom. On her feast day, the Pope blesses two lambs from whose wool the pallium (vestment conferred to metropolitan archbishops) is woven.

The Mass will be entirely sung in Gregorian Chant. Everybody is welcome to attend. Donation will benefit St. Augustine's Monastery.
