Fr. Harry Neely O.S.A.: May 23, 1928 - December 16, 2020

 From Fratellino:

Of your charity, pray for the soul of Fr. Harry Neely, O.S.A., who has passed away in San Diego, at Nazareth House, in his ninety-first year. Fr. Neely taught Latin at St. Augustine High School, and was for a decade the chaplain of the Tridentine Latin Mass Society of San Diego, now St. Anne's FSSP parish. Fr Neely was also the first chaplain of Chorus Breviarii San Diego, and of the Brothers of the Little Oratory in San Diego. Fr. Neely was blessed to retain his full mental faculties to the end, and surrendered his soul peacefully, as he had lived. He will of course be missed, but the legacies of his ministrations will keep his memory green long into the future. May God grant him rest, light, and peace. Requiescat in pace.

Friends of Fr. Harry Neely OSA gathered today for his Requiem mass, including Daniel Grady, aetate 94 1/2, the last surving founder of the TLM San Diego congregation, of which Fr. Neely was chaplain for a decade. Holy Cross Chapel was founded in 1987, and was the first post Vatican II TLM congregation in the United States to be founded with the consent of the local ordinary. Many of these friends are veterans of Holy Cross Chapel, either having attended as adults, or having grown up attending mass there. Requiescat in pace Fr. Harry, and THANK YOU, both to you and to Daniel Grady. In fact, we can never thank you enough!

(I should point out that these were only the few of the Holy Cross Chapel alumni who could make this mass on a weekday amid... [see the rest of Fratellino's post on Facebook --Ed.]

Summit of Iron Mountain
Starting From: Iron Mountain Commuter Lot at 4:00 (A.M.)

The Brothers of the Little Oratory in San Diego are organizing a Rorate Mass (a Votive Mass in honor of the Virgin Mary for the season of Advent) in the Traditional Roman Rite to be celebrated on the top of Iron Mountain in Poway, starting before dawn, on Saturday, December 5. At 4:00 (sharp), we will leave from the parking lot and ascend the mountain.  Please be adequately equipped for a hike (shoes, hat, clothes, water, snacks, a flashlight) and carry a candle to be lit during the Mass.

IMPORTANT UPDATE

We decided to anticipate the start time from the parking lot to 4:00 to make sure the Rorate Mass will start before dawn. If you are a fast walker, you are free to start later and catch us on the way or on the top. Last Sunday, carrying only a water-bottle and keeping a brisk pace, it took me 55 minutes from the parking lot to the summit.
