Hebdomadary: Rev. Fr. Harry Neely, O.S.A.

On December 7, we invite you  to St. Augustine Monastery Chapel to first Vespers of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was fitting that the Word of God should become flesh in the womb of  the most perfect woman: the Blessed Virgin Mary; who, at the very moment of her natural conception, was  sanctified  by the Holy Spirit and made worthy to become the Mother of God

The disciples of John the Baptist were waiting for the Messiah. But they would not believe their teacher when he told them that Jesus was the Christ. So they are sent to meet the Lord. He shows them His miracles, proofs of His divinity, and praises His Forerunner. The antiphon of the Magnificat canticle makes this present through Gregorian chant. Come and join us for Vespers of the 2nd Sunday of Advent!

At the end of the liturgical year, we are called to meditate on the last days and the coming of the Antichrist, who, drawing consensus from all sides, will deceive many into worshiping him. Let us instead adhere to the words of Christ, true God and true man. These, as the Magnificat antiphon proclaims, will not pass away. Join us at Immaculate Conception in  Old Town to conteplate this mystery through Gregorian chant.
